Have you met the patron of MIA EnviroWise?

The frog in the logo is a Giant Pobblebonk (sometimes known as the Giant Banjo Frog). He is very distinctive as far as frogs go and is indigenous to our area.

He is quite large (up to 9cm long) and can be pale fawn, yellow or red brown. He usually has a broad orange band down his side with an irregular black band below it and his belly is yellow with black spots. A very handsome fellow by anyone's standards!

He likes to live in areas where there is a water source with marginal vegetation like dams and channels. In our area, even a backyard pool fits this habitat description.

Listen for a deep plunk or thud between August and December because this will be our Pobblebonk saying hello.

And if you are fortunate enough to meet him, look after him because he is a great indicator of the environmental health of our area.

For the children - colour in your very own Pobblebonk.
