Centenary |
Join us for a year-long celebration as we commemorate 100 years of irrigation in the MIA. Celebrate across the MIA in a series of community events throughout 2012, which will pay homage to the visionaries, the engineers, the dam workers who pioneered the investment in irrigated agriculture as well as the farmers, businesses and the entire community who have made the MIA what it is today. Officially opened at a “Turning on the Water” ceremony on 13 July 1912, the MIA is renowned for its wine grapes and citrus and for its livestock, as well as a wide variety of crops and vegetables. It’s also home to the Australian rice industry. Most importantly, the MIA is a community, made up of people proud to be part of the region’s rich and impressive history. |
