Murrumbidgee Irrigation Leadership Team Re-elected

31 January 2003

Murrumbidgee Irrigation's Directors have endorsed the work of their Chairman, Dick Thompson and Deputy Chairman, Sam Ciccia by returning them to their respective positions for another term.

Like everyone in the agriculture industry, local irrigators are making tough decisions as Southern Australia endures its worst drought for 100 years. With the support of the Board of Directors, Dick Thompson showed exceptional leadership during recent negotiations with many of the States water leaders. The unprecedented deal secured with Snowy-Hydro for additional water provided some surety to farmers in a year when water allocations are at an all time low.

This supports the irrigation industries and all those in the irrigation towns."Existing crops are not finished yet," said Mr Thompson "Company Directors are committed to doing everything we can to assist farmers finish their existing crops and keep permanent horticultural plantings alive.

Any irrigator who still needs additional water to finish existing crops should contact our office as soon as possible. In difficult times it is important that we work together for the good of all irrigators and rural communities," concluded Mr Thompson.

Both Mr Thompson and Mr Ciccia thanked the Board for their endorsement but stressed that the positive outcomes they have been able to achieve have come as a result of cooperation of all Board members.
