IRRIGATION LEADER VISITS MURRUMBIDGEE

19 April 2004

Doug Miell, Chief Executive of NSW Irrigators’ Council visited Griffith over Easter.

As well as enjoying the La Festa activities, Doug was very impressed with his visits to horticultural and rice farms, stating that “these industries continue to build on the vision of the region’s pioneers. The MIA water savings initiatives and high–tech agricultural techniques are state of the art.

“Irrigation has definitely turned the MIA into an inland oasis. Griffith is a thriving and prosperous community, due in no small part to the numerous small business enterprises that support the irrigation sector. The rice, citrus and winegrape industries are outstanding examples of progressive agriculture, providing excellent local employment, investment and significant national export revenue.”

Doug added that “the MIA and irrigation should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
