NEW TECHNOLOGY IN WATER METERING PREVENTS INTERFERENCE OF WATER MEASUREMENT
5 May 2004
In a recent example of the benefits of new technology in water metering, a shareholder who was attempting to stop correct measurement of water has been caught and dealt with by the Company.
Chief Executive of Murrumbidgee Irrigation, Geoff Hipkins said, “our operators have been vigilant in identifying that meter records were not tallying with the water put in the channel”.
Mr Hipkins added, “staff worked really well together to find out quickly what was happening and to gather detailed evidence, including surveillance photos that led to an admission by the shareholder involved”.
New technology meters provide permanent records of what the water flow has been as well as any instances of attempted interference with the meter and Mr Hipkins has warned shareholders that staff will continue to be vigilant and action will be taken against anyone trying to steal water.
