13 April 2005 MURRUMBIDGEE IRRIGATION APPLAUDS PICCOLI’S APPOINTMENT TO SHADOW MINISTRY Dick Thompson, Chairman of Murrumbidgee Irrigation, congratulates Adrian Piccoli on his appointment to the Liberal-Nationals cabinet as Shadow Minister for Natural Resources (Land and Water). “Adrian has a real commitment to natural resource management and understands the important role played by the farming sector of regional Australia - it makes sense to appoint him as the Shadow Minister for Natural Resources,” said Mr Thompson. For many years now irrigators in the MIA have been working toward sustainability and have made very real and significant progress in spite of the difficult drought conditions. Adrian understands the importance of these achievements and the potential for further advances. If water reform in NSW and Australia is to move forward in a fair equitable manner it is imperative that all spheres of Government understand what is really happening in farming and irrigation and work toward the best outcome for all Australians. John Brogden is obviously aware of Adrian’s commitment to Natural Resources and has rewarded him with this important portfolio. I believe Adrian will bring a fresh approach to the Natural Resources debate in NSW and look forward to working with him in his capacity as Shadow Minister,” concluded Mr Thompson.
