PIPELINE TRIAL TO SAVE WATER

Murrumbidgee Irrigation is pleased to announce a joint research and development project with BlueScope Water involving a steel composite pipe product. The composite steel piping will be used to line existing gravity fed supply channels that are in need of upgrade.

The trial will be conducted at Tharbogang on Lateral 150 and will cover approximately 150 metres of channel.

“Murrumbidgee Irrigation is aggressively pursuing an infrastructure upgrade program to improve the efficiency of our supply system. We have been looking for a low pressure piping system as an alternative to our open channels and we believe the BlueScope Water product may provide an efficient and cost effective solution,” said Geoff Hipkins, Chief Executive of Murrumbidgee Irrigation.

“Many of the smaller cement lined supply channels have deteriorated over the years causing seepage and water loss problems. Rather than simply replacing this aging technology we are looking to options that will reduce evaporation, delivering water more efficiently. The trial will be conducted over a 12 month period at which time we will then consider a wider roll-out.”

BlueScope Water is an Australian owned company known for their expertise in manufacturing water infrastructure products.

“Developing technologies to improve water delivery is an exciting and important challenge. I look forward to working with the BlueScope Water team as we trial this innovative steel composite product,” concluded Mr Hipkins.
