LARGE AREA ROSTERED WATERING EARLY DEC

Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) advises eligible customers that the next large area rostered watering event has been scheduled to commence in the second week of December, subject to need.

"The last rostered watering was brought forward to early October in order to assist large area farmers to finish off winter cereals. This next watering in December was initially designed and planned for stock and domestic access only. However we recognise that there maybe some large area farmers with entitlement who may also wish to utilise the water and as there will be no additional losses incurred to supply them, we have given them the option," advised Russell Webb, Operations Manager of MI.

Customers who do not have sufficient water in their accounts need to contact Customer Services first to seek special application. Eligible customers should then assess their requirements immediately and place orders with Irrigation Services between Friday 30 November and 4pm Wednesday 5 December. For Leeton customers, orders are to be placed using the central water ordering phone service (6953 0161 / 0162 / 0165). Griffith orders are to be placed in person with Irrigation Services in Yambil St. This office will be manned across Saturday/Sunday 1-2 December between 8am and 4pm. Card boxes will not be cleared and ordering is only through the specified options as given. Customers will need to specify start and stop times and quantity of water required. Orders will close at 4pm on the 5 December and late orders cannot be accommodated.

With the temperatures on the rise as we head towards summer and dry conditions prevailing, it is timely to remind all customers of MI's compliance requirements. Non-compliance instances will result in the default provisions detailed in the Member Contract. Random patrols will continue for the balance of the irrigation season. Compliance requirements include:

1. Water must be taken through a fully functioning MI approved meter as detailed in the Member Contract and company policies, unless it is an approved unmetered (assessed) supply. Customers must not interfere with any MI works.
2. Water orders for large area farms require at least 4 days advance notice and at least 2 days notice for horticulture and hobby farms.
3. Customers must provide 24 hours advance notice of completion of an irrigation event.

Mr Webb advises that "by simply following these compliance requirements, MI is able to manage fairly the reduced amount of water that our system has to supply eligible farmers as well as to reduce unnecessary losses or wastage. Every drop counts in a season like this."

Horticulture customers in Griffith and Leeton and the main canal with high security water continue to have access to continuous supply, with at least 48 hours notice required by customers.
