NATIVE VEGETATION MACHINE PLANTING DEMONSTRATION

MIA EnviroWise will be holding a native tree and shrub machine planting demonstration at Murrumbidgee Irrigation's Bray's Dam site on Thursday 19th July between 10am and 12 noon.

The main objective of MIA EnviroWise is to promote sustainable natural resource management to improve the overall health of our environment.

Bray's Dam was completed by Murrumbidgee Irrigation in 2006 as part of their water saving initiatives for the Mirrool Creek. Since completion of the works, an area of 7 ha of cleared land has been deep ripped in preparation for plantings of local native trees and shrubs. This planting is the first of a series of plantings around the dam site so that the area surrounding the dam will be fully revegetated within the next 5 years.

On Thursday 19th July machine planting of tree and shrub seedlings will commence. Coleambally Saltbush Native Nursery has a tree planting service and will supply and plant all the seedlings using a tree planting tractor to ensure precise, efficient and uniform plantings. The tractor cultivates the ground prior to planting and as the plant is placed in the prepared area the machine delivers 2 litres of water at the base of the seedling. With adequate soil moisture this will keep the seedling going for up to a month.

The Bray's Dam site is situated approximately 12 km's from Griffith at the end of Pellizer Road, off the Kidman Way (Griffith to Darlington Point Highway). Murrumbidgee Irrigation invites all interested persons to the planting demonstration which will be open from 10am till 12 noon. There will be limited parking along Pellizer Road, follow the signs to the site.
