MIA ENVIROWISE FUNDS GRIFFITH PUBLIC SCHOOL BIRD SANCTUARY
Murrumbidgee Irrigation's MIA EnviroWise program contributes
funds to community groups and schools for projects that maintain and enhance
the sustainability of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA). It is the
major natural resource management program for this region.
Griffith Public School, with funding from MIA EnviroWise, will be establishing
a native vegetation and bird habitat zone to encourage native birds back
into the area, as well as promoting environmental awareness amongst students.
Students from the school will be involved in the development and construction
of the natural resource area, learning about native plant species and
birds. They will also obtain hands-on experience in bird watching, ongoing
monitoring and maintenance of the environment. By being actively involved,
the students will learn about the relationships of the ecosystem and the
success of the plantings in attracting native birds.
MIA EnviroWise is proud to support programs that promote practices to
enhance and protect the local environment, as well as look at how humans
impact the environment and how ecosystems are interrelated.
Community groups and schools are encouraged by MIA EnviroWise to apply
for funding up to a maximum of $2000 for projects that meet the program
principles of increasing water use efficiency and/or improving and managing
biodiversity in the MIA.
