27 July 2007 CITRUS WATERING POSTPONED Due to overnight rainfalls in the region, Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) in conjunction with Riverina Citrus advises that the planned watering for citrus growers due to commence 1st August, will be postponed until a later date in August. "After discussion with Riverina Citrus and growers this morning, it has been agreed to postpone the August 1st watering for a week or so due to the welcome overnight rainfalls of around 7 to 11 mm across the MIA region" said MI's Operations Manager, Russell Webb. MI is currently seeking advice from growers and Riverina Citrus regarding the specific timing of the next watering. When dates are finalised, growers will again be advised. Orders will still need to be placed in advance of taking water and specific ordering dates will be announced. The forecast for the next week is for some further light rainfalls and mild temperatures with no frost thereby negating the need for a 'survival watering' at this point in time. Mr Webb also advised that citrus growers in the Cudgell and Merungle Hill areas will also be catered for on an as needs basis. Growers with specific concerns should contact MI Irrigation Services in Leeton (6953 0100) or Griffith (6962 0200).. Ends For further information regarding this media release,
