Water is flowing across the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) as warmer weather and rising irrigator demand signal the start of what is shaping up to be a promising season.

With General Security allocations now at 19% and carryover at 16%, Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) is also issuing an enhancement to eligible customer accounts next week. This enhancement, derived from efficiency savings, is designed to support productive agriculture.

MI CEO Brett Jones said the enhancement reflects MI’s commitment to helping irrigators maximise their crop potential.

“This enhancement gives our irrigators a better opportunity to increase crop production this season. It’s part of our broader strategy to support efficient irrigation across the region,” Mr Jones said.

The recent Surplus Water event successfully delivered approximately 13GL of water over three days, providing a timely boost ahead of the warmer months.

Water delivery is further supported by MI’s enroute surge reservoirs, including the newly operational 5,000ML Roach’s Reservoir in Yanco.

“Strategically located surge reservoirs, combined with our move to full automation, allow us to respond quickly to irrigator needs - whether it’s higher flow rates, short-notice scheduling, or 24-hour access,” Mr Jones explained.

“It’s an exciting time for MIA irrigators. The upgrades we’ve made will underpin a delivery system that meets the evolving needs of our customers for years to come,” Mr Jones added.

Following an intensive maintenance program over winter, MI will continue capital works throughout the warmer months including piping, low flow outlets, and residential connections. Essential maintenance such as desilting, pump shed servicing, vegetation management, and channel bank rebuilds is also being carried out at key sites, while ensuring irrigators get the water the need when they want it.

To support irrigators during peak demand, MI’s Customer Operations Centre will operate from 6am to 11pm, seven days a week. Contacting the Customer Operations Centre is as simple as calling 02 6962 0200 and pressing 1 when prompted.  As usual we are available for critical supply and drainage issues outside of Customer Operations Centre hours. Simply follow the same process as above and you will be diverted to our after hours on-call.
