Make meaningful impact in a values-driven organisation.

At Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI), we’re proud to be a regional leader delivering innovative irrigation solutions and supporting the communities we serve. Our job is simple - to deliver water in the best way possible.

We are seeking a motivated Policy Officer to join our Legal & Regulatory Services team. In this role, you will support MI’s key policy and advocacy priorities, helping shape the organisation’s positions on complex water‑sector issues including water sharing plans, infrastructure, regulation and water markets.

Why join MI?

We offer:

  • Competitive remuneration and access to salary packaging options.
  • Career development through mentoring, training and internal mobility.
  • Company benefits including annual skin checks and flu shots, an annual fitness payment, life insurance cover and access to other wellbeing initiatives.
  • A culture built on Clarity, Connection, Vulnerability and Improvement.

About the role

Working closely with the General Manager – Legal & Regulatory Services, you will undertake research, prepare briefing materials, draft submissions and coordinate engagement with internal and external stakeholders. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to build their policy career in a meaningful regional industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on legislation, industry trends, and policy developments.
  • Draft submissions, briefing notes and policy documents that clearly communicate MI’s position.
  • Prepare materials for senior leaders attending industry forums.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and flag emerging impacts for MI.
  • Coordinate internal contributions to policy work, ensuring a whole‑of‑business perspective.
  • Maintain organised, accessible policy and research records.
  • Support small projects, consultant engagement and progress tracking.

What you’ll bring

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in policy, law, environmental management or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex information.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement capability.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Current ‘C’ class motor vehicle license.
  • Live in or be willing to relocate to the Griffith Area (or its surrounds).
  • Commitment to a strong values culture and a preparedness to ‘walk the talk’.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of policy development processes.
  • Awareness of the water industry and its regulatory environment.

If you are ready to take on this challenging and rewarding role, we want to hear from you! Apply now to join our team and make a difference.
