The Lead – Instrumentation Services is responsible for leading the delivery, performance and governance of MI’s instrumentation, metering, telemetry, SCADA and communications environment. The role ensures safe, reliable and well-controlled technical operations that support network performance, operational visibility and system integrity.

About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Operational Technology, you will lead a team of technicians and control engineers to support and continuously improve critical systems, ensuring system performance, accuracy and reliability. The role focuses on building team capability, applying sound engineering practices, and maintaining well-governed, dependable control systems and processes.
Experience in industrial automation, flow measurement, telemetry, SCADA or similar systems in water or asset-intensive environments is highly regarded. Most importantly, you will bring sound judgement, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to develop a capable, accountable and high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive a strong safety culture by ensuring effective systems, procedures and compliance across all activities.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, role modelling MI values and building capability and accountability.
- Provide clear direction on team and business objectives, maintaining strong engagement and communication.
- Plan and manage resources, including budget, to deliver efficient and effective outcomes.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and innovation across systems, processes and practices.
- Manage operational delivery across instrumentation, metering, SCADA and communications, including maintenance, fault response and planned works.
- Ensure robust governance, risk management, change control and technical compliance, supporting reliable and high-performing operations.
What you’ll bring
- A relevant qualification in instrumentation, electrical, automation, control systems or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising or coordinating technical teams in an operational environment.
- Hands-on experience administering, configuring and improving SCADA systems, alarm management, RTU/PLC design and associated governance, standards and protocols.
- Strong understanding of radio communications technology, including network analysis, design and performance across point-to-point and multi-site configurations.
- Experience supporting the calibration, performance and accuracy of metering, telemetry and other field-based measurement and sensing technologies.
- A current General Construction Induction Training Card (White Card)
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- A collaborative working style, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships across teams.
- A strong commitment to safe work practices, WHS requirements and maintaining a safe operating environment.
- A current ‘C’ class motor vehicle licence.
