The MI Community Grants Program provides annual financial and in-kind support to local initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing, equity, education and environmental sustainability across our area of operations. The program reflects MI’s commitment to supporting thriving, inclusive and resilient communities.

Outlined below are the eight steps involved in the application process, including what is required once a grant is awarded.
Applicants should review the Community Grants Program guidelines to ensure:
- Their organisation is eligible
- The proposed project aligns with at least one program focus area
- The project will deliver benefit within MI’s area of operations
Applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the assessment criteria prior to applying.
Before starting the application, applicants should prepare:
- A clear description of the project and its objectives
- Expected community outcomes and how success will be measured
- Project timing and delivery approach
- A simple, realistic project budget
- Details of any project partners or collaborators (if applicable)
Applications must be submitted via the official MI Community Grants Program application form during the advertised application period (open for 8 weeks).
The application form will request:
- Organisation and contact details
- Project summary and focus area alignment
- Description of community need and expected impact
- Project feasibility and delivery plan
- Funding request and budget breakdown
- Confirmation of eligibility and compliance requirements
All applications must be submitted by the advertised closing date. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
Applicants will receive a confirmation once their application has been successfully submitted.
Applications are assessed in early July by an internal MI assessment panel against the published assessment criteria.
MI may contact applicants during this period to clarify information or request additional details where required.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in mid-July.
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Confirm project details and payment information
- Agree to funding conditions, including reporting obligations
Unsuccessful applicants may be offered brief feedback where possible.
Funded organisations deliver their approved project in line with the agreed scope and timeframe and acknowledge MI’s support where appropriate.
Grant recipients are required to submit a short outcomes report between February and March, including:
- How the funding was used
- Project outcomes and community impact
- Photos, testimonials or case studies (where appropriate)
Program outcomes are reported publicly through MI’s Annual Report and ESG reporting.
