MI recognised at National Safety Awards
Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) was recognised for their safety programs and initiatives at the National Safety Awards Gala Luncheon in Sydney this week.
MI CEO, Brett Jones, thanked the MI Team for their efforts to make safety part of their lives, their jobs, and culture.
“This acknowledgement by our industry peers is testament to all the hard work the entire MI team has done over the past year and beyond,” he said.
“I would also like congratulate the joint winners of the overall award for excellence in WHS, Water NSW and Murrumbidgee Local Health District, for their efforts in the safety space.
We work closely with Water NSW, and it was great to be finalists with another organisation in the water sector.”
Mr Jones said that safety is an integral part of everything MI does and especially wanted to thank all the safety leaders at MI for their dedication to ensuring they support their team members every day in being safe.
“Our key philosophy is our safety leaders work for the entire MI Team to assist in keeping them safe and an essential part of that responsibility is being the reminding officer,” he explained.
“Our programs and policies are focused on supporting employees to be the best that they can be, and this includes ensuring their safety, health, and wellbeing. “
Mr Jones said that the business had made a deliberate decision, supported by the MI Board, to drive improvements in safety.
“Our goal was to build on our strong values and culture to effect behavioural safety,” he said.
“Essentially to shift the culture of our organisation to one where safety was ingrained as a fundamental part of the way we do things.”
Mr Jones has maintained a strong and personal commitment to place safety at the top of the agenda since his appointment as CEO in 2015.
“This recognition has only been achieved because the whole MI team got in behind the goal,” he said.
“Together we made safety a part of everyday life, and actively looked for ways to bring about positive change at work and at home.”
